Flow 1.0.1 Now Available

Hi Folks,

It is with considerable pleasure that I can now announce Flow 1.0.1’s immediate availability.

To grab 1.0.1, if you already have Flow, click “Check For Updates” from the “Flow” menu while it’s running. If you’re a new user, you can download it directly.

The first update to Flow addresses a myriad of issues — in some areas, it’s an order of magnitude better. Feel free to check out the release notes.

As always, I encourage you to continue providing feedback as many (existing, and potential) customers have done thus-far. I often brag about how great my customer-base is — you guys simply provide the most detailed, accurate, and thorough feedback I’ve ever seen. You’re awesome!

Just a quick note on the feedback front — to be absolutely clear, I want to point out that not all bug reports or feature requests will receive a response from Extendmac. I do personally read through each and every one of them, but unless a response is necessary, I usually just file the case as closed if it’s implemented or dismissed. On the other-hand, the average response-delay for technical support seems to be between 1 and 3 days — not optimal, but it’s the best I can do at this point.

Tomorrow I’ll begin working on 1.0.2 as I continue to make my way through your bug reports and feature requests. I hope the rate of development here reassures all of you who were concerned I’d up-and-go after 1.0. ;-)

Have a great day!,
Brian Amerige.

    It’s great to see a developer listening and committing to all of his user’s needs. Keep up the great work, solved many of my problems.

  2. ljun Says:

    Is there any way Flow can follow symbolic links when they are clicked on?

  3. Vince Says:

    1.01 is finally working with the FTP server I download from.

    Just wanted to say that Flow is what makes the Apple platform unique and worthwhile. It’s value added. The application just has a sense of aesthetic to it. A breath of fresh air, a zen like quality. Above all, it’s just a joy to use. The creator behind this has some serious design chops. Keep up the good work Brian!

  4. Brian Amerige Says:

    @ Vince

    Wow, thanks! That’s really a heck of a compliment. :-)

  5. Kyle Says:

    It’s a great looking app. I wish there was more information on this site about future development plans. Maybe I’m just missing it.

    I was about to purchase Flow until I noticed the lack of S3 support. I don’t want that to be a deal breaker, but it is. I’m wondering if there are any plans for S3 support in the (near) future?

    I think you’ve done a great job Brian. Very impressed.

  6. Justin Says:

    whats the deal with the transfer speed, seems to be very bad at getting the actual speed and jumping 683K/sec and 1024K/sec when my limit is ~700K/sec.

  7. Andy Says:

    I’m trying out Flow right now, and so far, I *really* like it.

    I did want to make sure of something a bit silly, though…

    You *are* kidding with the Trade Mark symbol on “boom” on your front page, right?

  8. Brian Amerige Says:

    @Andy

    Glad to hear you like Flow. :-)

    As for the boom trademark, yes of course I’m kidding. It’s a joke in reference to how much Steve Jobs says “Boom” during his keynotes. ;-)

  9. Ryan Townsend Says:

    I am getting some killer upload speeds, which is great. Have bought the app - well worth the money (don’t know why some people are saying $30 is a lot for FTP - especially if you use it every day!).

    Once gripe I have is directory listing times. I use a dedicated server from Rackspace (arguably the best managed hosting in the world), and yet it takes like 5-10 seconds to list directories sometimes, even when it is like 5 files, now that can only be kbs of traffic, so why is it so slow?

    Am I the only one having the problem or is anyone else too?

  10. Ryan Townsend Says:

    Sorry to double post but forgot to add the following line:

    I can’t understand why upload speed (which you can leave to do it’s thing and grab a coffee) has a higher priority in development than directory listing which you do every few seconds when browsing an FTP server?

    Just a thought or two for development, keep up the good work!

    By far in all these years… the FTP software from heaven! It awsome… They gonna love flow at the WWDC 08 great work!

    Just one suggestion, or two…

    1.Automator Workflows… (to add google analytics over my no dinamic pages, for example… there is a good automator that put the code on the page… )

    2.PHP Rendering on Live Preview…!

    Anyway… Great Software!

    (The little dog ran away home… GREAT i hated it)

  12. Alex Nichols Says:

    Did you submit Flow for a Apple Design Award?

  13. William Says:

    Is it possible to provide students discounts? I am really poor :(

  14. Brian Amerige Says:

    @William

    If you do the calculations out, student/educational discounts really only make sense for things like Apple offers them for –– computers, high priced software, etc. When you’re looking at a $29 product, even a 20% discount is only about $5.80 –– hardly worth the trouble, wouldn’t you say?

    Hope you understand,
    Brian (Extendmac)

  15. Miles Says:

    @Brian

    You forgot to mention that you yourself are a student. I think if William knew this, he may not have responded in that way. I love Flow, and also love how you’re not using age as an excuse. If anything, it gives you more time to work on Flow.

  16. Brian Amerige Says:

    @Miles

    Haha, yeah, I am a student. I tend not to mention it because, as I said once before on this blog, I don’t think my “situation” should have any effect on a customer’s experience. :-)

    (Although I’m certainly not sure about the having-more-time-to-work-on-Flow bit. I suppose if I was taking the standard courses that might be true, but with 7 hours of AP classes each day, plus about 2-4 hours of homework, it’s not infrequent that I find myself *starting* my Flow-work at 8PM or later. That’s why most of the work I get done happens on the weekends ;-))

  17. Eduardo Marques Says:

    I am having problems to upload large files in Flow 1.0.1. The upload always stop.

  18. that dude you know Says:

    i dont understand how someone makes an FTP program without “upload” and “new connection” available on the toolbar. Like, really? are you serious? no, i dont want a new folder, i want to upload.

  19. Brian Amerige Says:

    @that dude you know

    Try dragging. “Upload” isn’t in the toolbar for the same reason “Transfer” or “Move” isn’t in the toolbar in the Finder. It’d be a useless button.
